Pros and Cons
There is a lot that could be said about this mask. When paying $100 for a diving mask you'd expect the best, no problems whatsoever. While this mask has a lot of great advantages, there are some disadvantages as well.
PROS:
1. This mask is unframed, which makes it nice and small but also gives you a wide view of your surroundings.
2. The GoPro mount is made of metal and is built into the mask which is very nice especially for a frameless mask.
3. The lip seal under the nose is small, which is nice for me because I have a beard and I don't want to shave. The small lip makes a good seal with having a beard.
4. It comes with two different head straps.
CONS:
1. The picture of the black mask in the description is incorrect. It shows a plastic go pro mount, when in fact it is a metal mount.
2. The website provides very little information about the mask to begin with.
3. The mask instantly fogged, even though on the official XSFoto website, the overview of the mask says that the lens has been treated with an anti-fogging agent and to not use abrasives like tooth paste in the mask. Mine instantly fogged and remained foggy until I used toothpaste... After I used toothpaste, I had zero fogging issues.
4. The head strap connectors on the side are terrible... They are the little metal clips.. which are very loose and impossible to get a good fitting.. I have to shorten my strap more than usual before putting it on because it loosens up A LOT when putting it on. It is also IMPOSSIBLE to tighten up while it is on. Definitely a design flaw there. Wish I could put the mask on and tighten as needed while on my face.
5. The metal mount is good, but it was impossible to tighten completely tight by finger tightening. I had to recheck often to make sure it wasn't loose and that my camera wasn't facing an obscure direction. It does have the option to tighten with a flathead screwdriver so after my first test, I did take it home and tightened it down as much as possible, which is ok with me because I only use my GoPro for snorkeling so I am fine leaving the GoPro case attached to my mask at all times, but this eliminates ease of use because you wont be able to take it on and off your mask easily. It's not the easiest thing in the world to get the perfect angle on your mask so tightening it down permanently is the best option for me.
All in all, its a good mask... But for what you pay, it is not worth it. The fact that I cant tighten the head strap while the mask is on my face is the most frustrating and time consuming thing in the world. There definitely are some design flaws and Diver's Direct isn't the best place to buy this product, especially when the official supplier sells it for cheaper and Diver's Direct customer service is terrible... I messaged them while my product was on its way two weeks ago and I have yet to hear back on my inquiry.
